About puffin chic
Puffin Chic is a very special soap created in support of the Puffin Preservation Society and their fantastic work in helping to protect and preserve the lovely but increasingly vulnerable Atlantic puffin. The colours of the bar are inspired by the puffin's vibrant bill displayed during its breeding season. On the bar of soap, these colours are achieved by infusing the oils with botanicals and clays, and by using a layering technique while the mix is poured into the moulds.
The scent is inspired by the fragrant arctic thyme, a plant easily found in northern latitudes and near the little burrows where puffins raise their chicks. It was designed by blending pure essential oils of thyme, lavender, and rosemary.
With every bar of Puffin Chic that we sell, we donate 20% of the profit to this compelling cause. We want to share our love for these seabirds and the wonderful humans that work hard rescuing and rehabilitating little pufflings every year.

what's in Puffin chic?
olive oil infused with sweet paprika
To create the vibrant orange characteristic of the puffin's bill, the olive oil used in the soap is infused in cold for several weeks with sweet paprika powder until it reaches the desired colour. The coloured oil is carefully strained to remove the paprika and used as an ingredient in the soap. Infusing the oil in this way ensures that the skin-loving properties of olive oil remain in the final bar.
SHEA BUTTER
This fantastic butter is extracted from the nut of the shea tree. It is widely praised for its conditioning and nourishing qualities in natural skin and hair products. Shea butter is one of our favourite ingredients due to its high unsaponifiable content. This means that after the oils and butters are transformed into soap, a good amount of shea butter's nutrients remain unchanged contributing to a rich and nourishing final bar of soap.
Kaolin clay, french red clay, and activated charcoal powder
The rest of the colours are achieved by incorporating clays and charcoal powder into the emulsified batter. Black is created with activated charcoal powder, and white and orange are reinforced by adding white kaolin clay and French red clay into the mix. The use of these ingredients help providing stability to the colour and bring a nice slip to the texture of the soap.
